2011 Camp Registration

JUNIOR 4-H CAMP to be held July 4-8

Junior 4-H Camp will be held from July 4-8 at the W.E. Skelton 4-H Educational Center at Smith Mountain Lake near Roanoke.  The deadline to register is May 2nd.  The camp is open to all youth ages 9 through 13 in Alleghany County and the City of Covington. Youth do not have to be current 4-H members to attend Junior 4-H Camp.  This year our campers will join those from Augusta, Bath, Botetourt, Highland, and Rockbridge Counties.

The camp is a fun and rewarding educational experience, featuring instructive classes, recreation, camp fires, group competitions, dances, theme nights and much more. Camp numbers are limited and registrations are accepted on a first-come basis. The total cost per child is $230, which includes lodging, meals, class fees, camp T-shirt, snacks, insurance, counselor and adult supervision, program costs and a visit to the souvenir store. Scholarships are available on an as needed basis.

Each camper will have the opportunity to select 5 classes that they are interested in learning more about.  Some of the classes include:  archery, horsemanship, canoeing, sports, kayaking, fishing, skateboarding, climbing, dance, forestry, swimming, and computers.  We have classes to fit everyone's interest.  All these classes are instructed by adult camp staff who have received special training and certification.

If you would like more information on Junior 4-H Camp or need a registration brochure or scholarship application, please contact the Alleghany/Covington Extension Office at 862-0369.

If you are a person with a disability and desire assistance or accommodations to participate in 4-H activities, please contact the VCE—Alleghany/Covington Unit Office at 862-0369 during business hours to discuss accommodations.
