2012 Fruit and Vegetable Conference
Hampton Roads Fruit and Vegetable Meeting
This annual winter production meeting is scheduled for Thursday, February 16, 2012 at the Hickory Ruritan Building, 2752 Battlefield Boulevard South, Chesapeake, VA 23322. The doors will open at 8:00 a.m. for exhibitor set-up, registration begins at 8:30 a.m., and the program will get underway promptly at 9:00 a.m. Approximately 30-40 area fruit and vegetable producers attend to hear important production topics presented by Extension and Ag-Industry Specialists. Agribusinesses have display tables and sponsor this meeting. Private pesticide recertification in categories 90 and 91 are offered. No pre-registration necessary.
2012 Rain Barrel Workshops
Want to learn about the many uses of a rain barrel and how to build one yourself? If so, then plan on attending one of the Build A Rain Barrel classes being offered by the Department of Agriculture, Chesapeake Master Gardeners and Public Works Department.
The registration fee includes a barrel, supplies and help with assembly and handouts. The 2012 registration form is available now with classes being held from March – October.
Farm Tire Recycling
Tire recycling days are tentatively set for March 15-16th at Collie & Frank Brickhouse’s Farm, Centerville Turnpike Road in Chesapeake. Sign-up will begin Feb. 2nd at the Field Crop Conference in Chesapeake. After Feb. 2nd farmers may sign up with Roy Flanagan at the VA-Dare SWCD office (385-8607). This year’s Tire Days event is financially supported by registration fees based on tire size. Car tires @ $1; standard truck tires @ $5; tractor and oversize tires @ $15 each. These fees help cover the costs for recycling. You must have a farm number and register to participate.
2012 Commercial Pesticide
The 2012 Commercial Pesticide Applicator Recertification Program will be June 14, 2012 at the Chesapeake Central Library.
The registration form is available now. Register before May 31st.
