Through educational programs based on research and developed with input from local stakeholders, we help the people of Cumberland County improve their lives.

We provide education through programs in Agriculture and Natural Resources, Family and Consumer Sciences, 4-H Youth Development, and Community Viability.

Were you a 4-H member? Did you attend 4-H camp? Or maybe you were a 4-H volunteer?  Identify as a 4-H Alumni and represent your 4-H state:  The top three states with the most “hands raised” will earn $5,000, $10,000 or $20,000, respectively.

Language Interpretation Services Now Available

If you have limited English skills, do not let that stop you from visiting an Extension office. If you have difficulty speaking or understanding English, our staff can serve you by connecting you to one of our Extension agents through a telephone-based interpreter. 2017 Backyard Gardening Series


The Cumberland Extension Office is offering a backyard gardening series that will walk you through the gardening process from start to finish.  Each session will outline a topic that will help make your garden successful.  The series will take place at the Cumberland Extension Office running from January to July 2017.  Each class will run from 9:30 - 11:30 AM.

2017 4H Fishing Camp


The 2017 4H Fishing Camp is open to youth ages 9-13 and will be held April 7-9 at the Holiday Lake 4-H Center in Appomattox, VA. The early bird cost is $90.00 per child if registered by March 13, 2017.  The regular cost goes up to $95.00 after March 13, 2017.  The cost includes all programming fees, instruction, meals, and lodging.  The workshops include knot tying, fishing safety, lure making, and of course time set aside to fish!  The registration deadline is March 24th so please don't wait in order to ensure your spot at this very popular camp.

2017 Summer Cloverbud Camp

Come one, Come all!

The 2017 4-H Summer Cloverbud Camp will take place June 16-18 for youth ages 5-8.  The camp will be held at the Holiday Lake 4-H Educational Center in Appomattox, VA.  Cloverbud camp is designed to introduce younger children to the 4-H camping experience.  There will be a trained volunteer leader present for every 5 campers.  The early bird cost is $87 per camper if registered by May 26, 2017.  The regular price will be $97 per camper after May 26, 2017.  The fee covers all programming fees, meals and lodging.  Camp fills fast and is limited to 60 boys and 60 girls so please register with the Cumberland Extension Office by calling 804-492-4390 or email
